One of the suspects recently arrested for allegedly driving Cynthia Osokogu’s suspected killers to Cosmilla Hotel, FESTAC has denied the allegation.

The suspect, Gideon Okechukwu, said he was an unregistered cab driver that usually operated within FESTAC area of Lagos State.

Cynthia was said to have been lured to Lagos by Okwumo Nwabufo and picked up at the Murtala Muhammed Airport from where she was taken to the hotel where she was allegedly killed by Nwabufo and his 23-year-old cousin, Olisaeloka Ezike.

According to police detectives, Okechukwu was the one who allegedly drove Nwabufo and Cynthia to the hotel.

During interrogation, Nwabufo had said his modus operandi was to lure ladies to hotels in FESTAC where he would drug his victims and steal from them. The police alleged that Okechukwu usually drove Nwabufo and also aided him in escaping from crime scenes.

Okechukwu however said he and Nwabufo were not friends. He said he was an unregistered cab driver that had been hired by Nwabufo to drop him off on four occasions, adding that their relationship was strictly business in nature.

He said, “I am an unregistered cab driver and I usually operate at night. I attempted to join the cab association in FESTAC but they rejected me because my vehicle is too old. Nwabufo and I exchanged phone numbers after I rendered service to him the first time.

“So, he used to call me to pick him up and drop him off in front of his estate in FESTAC. He usually paid me N1,000 if I took him outside FESTAC while he paid me N600 within FESTAC. I took him to Yaba once and he paid me N2,000.

“On the day the lady (Cynthia) arrived Lagos, I wasn’t the one that went to pick her up. I’ve never seen her before. My vehicle cannot even go to the airport because if you’re not a registered cab driver you cannot go the airport let alone my rickety Mazda 1986 model. No high class person would even agree to board my car.

“On the Sunday that the lady was allegedly killed, I went to church. I am a Jehovah’s Witness and after attending church service on Sunday, I go from house to house preaching. I’ve never carried Nwabufo with anybody before. He didn’t even know my name and I didn’t know his until I met him in police custody. In fact, his name was stored as A1 Close on my telephone because all I used to do was to drop him in front of A1 Close where he claimed to live.”

Narrating how he was implicated and arrested by the police, the driver said the police detectives ordered Nwabufo to call him on the telephone and Nwabufo told him to come and pick him up as usual.

He said, “On August 20, Nwabufo called me on the phone that I should come and take him to University of Lagos. He said I should come and pick him up at A1 Close as usual. I didn’t know that he was being used by the police to lure me. When I arrived there, I was immediately arrested.

“During investigation, the Area E Commander told Cosmilla Hotel Staff to point out the people who came to the hotel on the day of the incident. The staff picked out the two prime suspects (Nwabufo and Olisaeloka). I’ve never been to the hotel before and I didn’t appear on the CCTV.”

The driver however said on the same day Osokogu was killed, he had gone to pick up Nwabufo on the road not too far from the hotel but did not know at the time that any murder had been committed.

Nonso Ezike, Olisaeloka’s younger brother, also told PUNCH Metro that he had no hand in the murder.

Although the police recovered Osokogu’s stolen BlackBerry phone from Nonso, the 22-year-old said his brother asked him to sell the phone, adding that he did not know that it was stolen.

The graduate of Mathematics and Computer Science from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, said, “I finished last November and I was supposed to start my National Youth Service Corps programme with the next batch in November 2012. Pending the time, I decided to go into selling of phones.

“I bought a BlackBerry Torch phone at Ladipo Market at a cheap price of N37, 000. So, I thought I could be making profit by buying and selling phones. I would take pictures of BB phones and upload them on my Facebook page along with the price list.

“In July, my brother (Olisaeloka) brought a white Bold 5 BB (Cynthia’s phone) and told me it was for Nwabufo and that he wanted to sell it. The phone memory was wiped off while the external memory card was missing. I didn’t know the phone was stolen and I sold it for N68, 000 to a man in Port Harcourt and I sent it through courier.”

Patience Jonathan hospitalised in Germany – Report

Wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan

Wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan

There were speculation on Sunday night that the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, might be undergoing treatment in Germany for food poisoning.

An online news portal, Saharareporters, had reported that Patience had been undegoing treatment in a German hospital for about four days.

The news medium reports that Patience was airlifted to the hospital by an air ambulance last week under emergency medical conditions.

It also quoted Presidency sources who said that the “emergency airlift departed for Wisbanden, Germany” but could not confirm if “her treatment was being undertaken in that city”.

Efforts made by The PUNCH to confirm both the health and whereabouts of the President’s wife on Sunday night were abortive.

Calls placed to the aides of both the President and his wife were not picked. These aides included Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati; and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe.

7 Access Bank Marketing staff dies of Hypertension in weeks

We should see in every LovePeddler an accusing finger pointing firmly at society as a whole. Every love-vendor, every partner in prostitution, turns the knife in this festering and gaping wound that disfigures the world. In desperate bid to increase its capital base, Access Bank, like love-vendor, has resorted to numerous unethical practices. In desperate bid to remain in business, set unrealistic targets for their female staff insisting that they either live up to expectations or lose their jobs.

A huge number of female bankers have either lost their jobs due to non-compliance or kept the jobs by embracing what has now been tagged ‘corporate prostitution.’ While some of them have died of heart-attack. Access Bank, we hear, has even gone a step further by buying official cars for some of the ladies who go about in skimpy revealing dresses to seduce high net-worth ‘customers’ to make deposits. This ‘trade’ has been so mastered by some ladies that they don’t have to fix a date or a venue for the exploitation, as they have ‘ready-made package’ for randy depositors who wish to explore the spontaneity aspect of the business. Cynthia Udoka Osokogu Was Killed By Her Facebook Friends In Lagos

24 Year Old Cynthia Osokogu left Abuja in late July 2012 (According to reports, on the 22nd of July 2012). Like many enterprising young people, the post-graduate student of Nasarawa State University was a clothing retailer and had travelled to Lagos to purchase new stock.

Cynthia had been chatting with some new “friends” on Facebook for a few months. In the course of their conversations, they developed a friendship and a level of trust. These young men were also university students, they seemed normal and promised to host Cynthia when she came to Lagos.

There is speculation that they paid for her plane ticket and promised to pay for her hotel as well. Only Cynthia knows if this is true. Whatever the truth is, Cynthia trusted her new friends and had no idea that they had sinister plans.

What we know is that, these 2 young men picked Cynthia up from the airport in Lagos and drove her to a hotel in Festac. At the hotel, they tied her up, robbed her of all the money she brought to shop for her business and strangled her to death. They then left the hotel and quickly deleted her from their facebook friend list to remove any trace of their connection.

The hotel found her body and since her ID cards and mobile phone had been stolen, they could not identify her or call friends and family. Her body was deposited in a morgue in Lagos. All this time, her family and friends were praying for her safe return.

How the Killers Were Caught at some point, one of the culprits accidentally answered Cynthia’s phone and the call was traced to Festac. Therefore, her missing person’s police report was submitted to the Area E Command in Festac. This enabled her family to find her body in the morgue and also led them to the hotel.

Using CCTV from the hotel, the killers were identified. According to reports, these two young men are university students who have now confessed that they killed Cynthia and she is their sixth victim – the gang reportedly specializes in luring unsuspecting young women, robbing them of their possessions before killing them.

Though there is speculation that their motive was ritualistic, it appears that it was greed and their main goal was to rob and kill. The pharmacist who supplied the drugs used on Cynthia and hotel staff have also been arrested. According to Police spokesperson Ngozi Braide, “Six people were arrested on Sunday over the incident and investigations are ongoing”.

As you can see, Cynthia is one of Nigeria’s numerous social media generation girls (with BB and a facebook account), this unfortunately led to her demise. It is a warning that no matter how bored you are, you should learn to stay off facebook, ofcourse boredom is the number 1 reason why many people join facebook anyway. Share to Inform your friends!

Man Impregnates Mother-In-Law, Says “She Seduced Me With P*rn Films”

If Mr Tiamiyu Ibrahim, a 45-year-old mechanic, had been part of the Nigerian contigent to the just concluded London 2012 Olympics, he, probably, would have won a medal for Nigeria. The only snag is that his field of specialisation, ‘bedminton’ was not part of the sporting activities listed for the tournament. IDOWU ADELUSI, in this piece, reports the story of a man who put his mother-in-law in a family way.

MRS Aminat Ibrahim’s story appears fictitious, but it is not. The claim of the 40-year-old trader that her husband is the father of a four-month-old baby girl born by her mother leaves one wondering whether Aminat knows the weight of her claim or not.

Mrs Ibrahim said she was ashamed and rattled by the development, adding that her unrepentant mother had threatened to curse her for exposing her misdeed. Read the rest of this entry »

Lagos ocean surge: Bodies of 6-year-old girl, three others recovered

THREE bodies, including that of a six-year-old-girl, were on Sunday recovered from Kuramo Beach in Lagos where about 16 people were swept into the Atlantic Ocean on Saturday.

The three bodies, recovered during a joint operation supervised by officials of the state Ministry of Waterfront, state Emergency Management Agency and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, brought to four, the number of bodies recovered since Saturday.

The body of an unidentified man was washed ashore on Saturday.

The six-year old girl, Bisi Kolawole, was said to be the daughter of one of the traders at the beach front. Her father, Tunde, was seen crying uncontrollably as the body was being put in a sack.

Tunde operates a drinking joint with his wife at the beach.

Bisi’s mother and her other siblings were still missing as at Sunday.

“I can’t imagine what Tunde is going through right now. They have not been able to find his wife and second child. This is a tragedy,” a man who refused to give his name told our correspondent.

One of the bodies recovered was also said to be that of a 32-year-old man identified simply as Arthur.

“We all know him here. I am not sure anybody knows his surname. We all called him Arthur,” one of the traders at the scene told The PUNCH. Read the rest of this entry »
